Poll Call: Do They Get It?
𤨠How do your people react? | What you want from your drinks | 3 min read | 20 second vote
Hey you,
How goes it?
š Last Weekās Results
Last weekās question was a simple one:
Do you prefer your low/no drinks to taste as close as possible to the āreal thingā, or are you looking for something completely different?
But there was also a third option, and thatās the one that took it home for us with 56% of the vote:
Option 3: āI donāt care, just make it tasty!ā
And you canāt argue with that.
Interestingly, though, the second most popular option, with 40% of the vote, was for a replica of the real thing, leaving only 4% of you wanting drinks that bear no resemblance to booze.
This is a point I found myself making (again) when I was questioning a recent panel of alcohol-free wine producers.
Gen Z gets a lot of the coverage, targeting and marketing around AF drinks, but what they want is very different from those of us who have spent decades finding our favourite Argentinian Malbec or the perfect Bavarian Wheat Beer.
Our drinks need to taste like a complement to our lifestyle, not a departure from it.
The good news is, I think the message is finally starting to hit home, and the response from the panel was resoundingly understanding and, more importantly, action-oriented in our favour.
But donāt you worry, I still intend to keep banging that drum!
𤨠This Weekās Poll Call
Iām going to do my best to keep alternating between drink-based questions and lifestyle questions because I know youāre all here for different reasons and that this lifestyle is not just about whatās in your glass but who you share that moment with..
So this week, letās take a look at how your social circle is reacting to your changing choices - when you tell your friends, family or colleagues that youāre having a booze free evening, how do they react?

They say you're either an innovator-type or a manager-type.
Iāve been a manager of people for most of my career, and along that journey, I was repeatedly told, āCreativity is not your strong suit, Deniseā.
But my middle finger is pointed firmly up at those people after spending two and a half yearsĀ creatingĀ Low No Drinker Magazine, and now havingĀ createdĀ 117 episodes of the podcast (and counting).
This month, Iāve had my Christmas creativity hat on (and I know you might be rolling your eyes as weāre not even in November yet, but I come from the land of hospitality where you start planning for December in July!)
Iāve been putting together the first annual Mindful Drinking Advent Calendar. Iāll tell you more about it next week, but if you donāt want to wait, you can check it out and sign up for free at https://www.lownodrinker.com/mindfuladvent

Maisels Weisse Alcohol Free Wheat Beer (0.5% ABV) I discovered this inside Mercato Metropolitano, a very trendy south London community food market that will sadly be closing down next year.
Itās isotonic and vitamin-packed and supposedly great for the sporty types among us, but to be honest, to me it just tastes bloody delicious: smooth, biscuity, refreshing.
